Exercise Associated with Better Quality of Life for Colorectal Cancer Patients

According to a meta-analysis published in Nature Scientific Reports, patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) who exercised had improved functional capacity and quality of life (QoL), irrespective of whether they exercised at home or under supervision.

Investigators assessed data of 372 CRC patients from 11 randomized controlled trials (RTCs) for three types of exercise interventions - home-based, supervised, or mixed - who were compared with 334 CRC patients not undergoing an exercise intervention.

A pooled analysis of the 11 studies noted in 6 studies that a supervised or mixed exercise intervention significantly affected CRC patients. Five studies revealed that home-based interventions missed the significance for impact (P=0.05). According to a sensitivity analysis; however, there was a significant benefit with all three types of interventions, for functional capacity as well as QoL, among people who adhered the most, completing 80% or more of the sessions… (Medpage Today)
